Dutch Harvest Farm. Lansing, New York. June 2022.

Black tie dress code. Crowd surfing by 10pm.

That’s the whole story, really.

Not because of the formality. Not because of the white barn or the pond or the way the sun sets over Cayuga Lake like it was staged just for them.

Because Claire and Ryan built something that night that can’t be recreated. A room full of people who were so glad to be there that they forgot to be composed.

That’s the version I was paying attention to.

Dutch Harvest Farm is the kind of venue that does a lot of work quietly.

White barn. Pavilion when the weather doesn’t cooperate. A property large enough to hold a crowd and still feel intentional. And that pond at golden hour — it’s the kind of light that makes everything look like a memory while it’s still happening.

It handles formal events with ease. It also handles the part of the night when the formal part stops mattering.

Which is, always, my favorite part.

Shirts came off. People crowd surfed. Someone — probably more than one someone — was yelling lyrics at full volume with zero apology.

It felt excessive in the best way. Loud. Celebratory. A little unhinged.

That’s not a wedding that went wrong. That’s a wedding that went exactly right.

The black tie framing isn’t ironic. Claire and Ryan wanted the full thing — the elegance, the intention, the weight of the occasion.

And they got it.

They also got the version of their friends and family that only comes out when everyone stops performing and starts actually being there.

Both things were real. I photographed both.

This is what I’m always looking for.

Not the version of a wedding that looks good in a grid. The version that feels like something.

The moment someone forgets the camera exists. The moment the room tips from composed to completely alive.

Once it tips — it’s gone fast. That’s when I’m paying closest attention.

Venue: Dutch Harvest Farm — Lansing, NY (Finger Lakes) Location: Near Cayuga Lake, Ithaca area Style: Black tie documentary wedding photography

If you’re planning a wedding at Dutch Harvest Farm or anywhere in the Finger Lakes — Ithaca, Aurora, Seneca Lake, the whole region — and you want someone who will actually be there for the moment the room tips.

If you’re looking for a Finger Lakes wedding photographer who knows the region — the light at Cayuga Lake, the venues, the way October disappears fast — that’s what I do.

Let’s talk.
